Teresa Martin, 64, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at St. Peter’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Teresa was born on January 16, 1960 to the late Iona and Arthur Salisburg. She attended Duanesburg High School before joining the workforce. She was employed by General Electric for a short time and later became a Data Entry Machine Operator for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, where she worked for 31 years. She prided herself on her strong work ethic and being the fastest typist in her unit.
Growing up, Teresa was a free spirit and a bit of a wild child. She had a need for speed in all 3 of her 1978 Trans Ams, modeled after the Trans Am in the television show Smokey and the Bandit. One of which, she drove to California with her brothers and stopped in Provo, UT to sneak into The Osmond Studios to see the Donny & Marie Show - her absolute favorite.
In her spare time, Teresa enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding her golf cart and traveling in her Toy Hauler. She loved to attend the Harley Rendezvous with her husband, Clay, and later became a staff member. The Rendezvous was one of their favorite places to unwind, hang out with friends and enjoy themselves.
Teresa was a bookworm through and through. She absolutely loved to read, especially thriller and horror novels. Stephen King and Dean Koontz were two of her favorites. She was also a horror movie fanatic and loved watching wrestling. Teresa also loved crossword puzzles, playing games on her kindle and listening to music.
Teresa was a huge animal lover. Growing up, Teresa loved riding horses and had a beautiful palomino named Taffy. She also loved her dogs, Candy, Kimmy, and Kutey, as well as her cat, Chucky.
Teresa always marched to her own beat. She liked what she liked, did what she wanted and didn’t care what others thought about it. Growing up, she dreamed of getting married in blue jeans and that’s just what she did. She was a true icon in her own right.
Teresa was so incredibly strong and never let anything get her down. Throughout life, Teresa endured several health issues including a brain tumor and later suffered from a stroke, which left her permanently disabled. She also battled and beat cancer. Despite everything she went through, Teresa always had a positive outlook on life and a big smile on her face. She was an inspiration to all and truly the sweetest person.
She is survived by her loving family; daughter Susan Martin (Adam Powles), brothers Leroy Salisburg (Marsha) and Roland Salisburg (Jodi), mother-in-law Jeanette Martin, brother-in-law Robert Martin Jr. (Rocky), sisters-in-law Jeanette Martin (John Crowley), Mariellen Vadney (Joel), and Alice Martin-Hamlin (Marty). She also leaves behind her nephews and nieces Tyler and Ryan Vadney, John J. Crowley V, Deidre (Salisburg) Klim, Amber Cioffi, Faline, Sydney and Kyle Salisburg.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her loving husband of 45 years, Clay Martin, who passed away on July 29, 2024.
A private graveside service will take place at Schenectady Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Teresa’s memory may be made to the American Stroke Association.
