Esperance, NY-Mr. Schuyler J. Snyder, 91, of Esperance, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday afternoon, December 19, 2015 in the caring hands of those at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.
He was born on October 22, 1924 in Charleston, NY, son of the late Earl and Mildred (Shaffer) Snyder and graduated from Duanesburg Central School. He was united in marriage on November 14, 1959 with Jean Youker at the United Methodist Church, Burtonsville, NY; a loving and devoted union of 37 years until her passing in 1997. He was the owner and operator of the Snyder Dairy Farm for several years, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Snyder was very civic minded. He was one of the last surviving founding members of the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department where he served the community for 66 years. He was a 50- year member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Society, where he served on the board of directors from 1964-2014 and was also very active with the Montgomery County Republican Committee. He served as committeeman for 53 continual years and was honored with the Hugh Farley Service Award in 2012. Schuyler replaced his father who served before him for 25 years.
Survivors include his devoted son, David Snyder and wife Katharine of Burtonsville. He was predeceased by his sister, Ellen Snyder.
The family will receive relatives and friends at White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson, NY- 518 895 2380 from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. The funeral will commence at 10 am on Wednesday, December 23rd with the Rev. Richard Reynolds, officiating. Procession will follow to Esperance Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Jean. Kindly consider memorial offerings to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. The staff at the hospice home took wonderful care of Schuyler during his illness and the family is very grateful.
