Robert "Bob" Crommie
January 9, 1929 — December 23, 2017
Robert “Bob” Crommie, 88, of Western Turnpike, Delanson, NY passed away on December 23, 2017 at Wilkinson Nursing Home, Amsterdam, NY.
Bob was born on January 9, 1929 in Albany, New York to Floyd and Lina Crommie.
On June 24, 1950 Bob married his beloved wife, Catherine “Cathy” Crommie. They raised three daughters together and carried out many family traditions throughout their 58 years of marriage. On holidays, Bob and Cathy would insist that their grown children and grandchildren return home to enjoy a feast and spend time together. Cathy would prepare a meal and Bob would be the last at the table, enjoying every last bite that his wife prepared. Cathy predeceased her husband after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease in October of 2008.
Bob was known for his love of the outdoors. In the summer, Bob was an avid sailor who loved the ocean. For many years he traveled the water ways from Rexford, NY to Hyannis, MA where he spent the summer weekends sailing on Cape Cod. In the winter, Bob spent many hours with his bow or shotgun, hunting deer in the woods near his home. Many of his children and grandchildren attribute the salt in their veins and love for the outdoors to him.
As an exacting craftsman, Bob built not only custom windows and doors as his career, but also many beautiful projects that live on in the community. Whatever project he was working on was done with the highest standards and skill.
Bob and Cathy enjoyed antiquing together and showing their classic cars at car shows.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Linda Crommie of Central Bridge, daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Norm Russell of Wellford, SC. His daughter, Judy Crommie, predeceased him in December of 2017. Bob had five grandsons, Jamie Lawyer, Adam Crommie, Jason Russell, Brian Russell, Kenny Cravotta and granddaughter, Amanda Wagner.
Family and friends are invited to call at the White VanBuren Funeral Home 1779 Main Street Delanson on Thursday, December 28th from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 29th at 10 am the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring at the Esperance Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Bob’s memory.
