Delanson – Richard J. Hoffman, of Schoharie Turnpike, passed away Sunday April 14, 2013 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany surrounded by his family.
Born on May 2, 1927 in New York City, he was the son of Peter and Mae Hoffman. He served our country in the United States Navy from 1945-1954. His naval tours included the East China Sea and the Pacific Rim. Following his naval service he worked 22 years for the New York City Police Department retiring as a detective 2 nd grade out of the Queens District Attorney’s Office. He then was employed by the Marine Midland Insurance Fraud & Investigations.
Richard was a member of the PBA, detective endowment Association, the NYC Pulaski Association and the Polish National Alliance. He was also a member of the “The Grumps”. Richard was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Delanson.
His wife, Estelle, whom he married on May 6, 1950, passed away on October 7, 2012.
He is survived by his son, Michael and his wife Sharon of Delanson and his daughter, Barbara and her husband Vernon Salisburg of Duanesburg. His five grandchildren; Michael and Julie Hoffman of Easton, Mass., Matthew and April Hoffman of Guilderland, Corrie Lynn Hoffman of Delanson, Amanda Salisburg of Somerville, Mass. And Holly Hoffman of Delanson.
Richard was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Mae Hoffman, who passed away in 1975.
Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at White-Van Buren Funeral Home 1779 Main St., Delanson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Grove Cemetery.
