Mildred "Milly" (Wagner) Schworm

Milly Schworm, 87, a life-long resident of Duanesburg, passed peacefully on July 25, 2015 after a brief illness.  She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harold C. Schworm; children, Jeffrey L. Schworm and his wife Brenda J., Lt Col Brenda L. Schworm, and Paula  S. Marshman; six grandchildren, Benjamin, Jessica, Linnea, Rebecca, Hannah and Devon; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sylvia and Millie Jane; and four step-grandchildren, Lillian, Kendon, Noah, and Penelope.  She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Carolina Mille Marshman.
Born Mildred Wagner on March 19, 1928 at the family farm where she passed, Milly had many stories of life on the dairy farm through the Depression and World War II and the many changes that technology brought to life on the farm.  She married her high school sweetheart, Harold, on May 16, 1948.
After high school, Milly worked at several places including General Electric. In 1960, she started clerking at the Duanesburg Post Office. In 1970, she was promoted to Postmaster when the previous postmaster retired. She was the Postmaster for 18 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed the U.S. Postal Service and all of the people who came into the post office.  In fact, she was fond of saying that she used to know everyone in Duanesburg and where they lived!
Before and after retirement, Milly and Harold visited all 50 states, an accomplishment she was very proud of, including a road trip to Alaska and back in their camper.  Retirement life was full, spending six months in Duanesburg and six months at their home in Barefoot Bay, Florida.  Two years ago, the decision was made to stay in Duanesburg year around.  Milly loved her family, her farm, dancing, happy hours, the hummingbirds, her flowers, watching the clouds, and the moon and stars.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, July 29 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson, NY.  Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 30 at 11 am at the funeral home. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the funeral home.       Also, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1473 Erie Blvd., Schenectady, NY 12305 or Albany Medical Children’s Hospital.
Burial will be at Grove Cemetery.
