Delanson- Marlene Glaser Moen , 81, formerly of Rotterdam for over 30 years , residing on Thousand Acres Road for over eight years with her daughter and her family , passed away peacefully on February 4, 2016 surrounded by her beloved family and her faithful service dog ,Caleb.
Marlene was born on March 15 , 1934 a daughter of the late Frederick and Antoinette Obrecht Glaser, both whom immigrated to this country from Germany. Marlene worked since her late teens for First National Bank of Scotia most recently the Erie Boulevard Office up until her retirement at an amazing 70 years of age as Head Teller. Marlene did take a brief break from work to raise her children. She took her job as head teller very seriously, loved her customers and was known for being knowledgeable and was well liked by her coworkers who often became and still are her close friends.
Prior to being diagnosed with Parkinson's after her retirement, Marlene enjoyed walking for exercise and also participated in several local walking races winning medals for her age group. She also enjoyed cross country skiing with her family and husband and yearly took a trip up to Lake Placid to ski. Her and her family spent most summer vacations up at Willsboro Bay , Lake Champlin enjoying time on the beach and cooking out with her friends and family. She enjoyed traveling and was able to do so with her husband prior to his passing particulary loving to go to Norway, where her husband's family was from to visit her extended family there whom she loved dearly. Her and her husband loved going to Oginquit Maine and walking the Marginal Way. After her husbands passing she did a lot of traveling to great places and went on cruises with her sister Evelyn and brother in law Alfio.
As her illness progressed she tried to remain independent and got a service dog , Caleb, who not only gave her balance and her legs back but was her faithful companion.
Marlene was often seen around Delanson or Duanesburg with Caleb shopping at grocery stores or bringing him with her when she volunteered or attended services at the Esperance Elks Lodge. She would regularly watch her daughter and son in law play horse shoes at the Elks with her dear friend June Nolen and Caleb. Caleb went everywhere and became as loved as she was with her friends at BINGO.
She greatly enjoyed BINGO that her friend June introduced her to up until illness made it difficult to do. Marlene's greatest love was her grandchildren. She baby sat her son's girls for many years and was always proud of all of them. As she became wheelchair bound she often felt bad she couldn't do more with her grandchildren but loved watching them do what they were doing or look at photos of them with a beautiful smile on her face always. Marlene was an avid reader, an amazing cook and loved music. Her son in law would often play guitar for her and sing. She also enjoyed going to the Duanesburg Community Center three days a week for lunch and to talk to her friends. She did this right up to week before her passing. She often mentioned to her daughter that the daily bus driver and current director at the meal center would take such good care of her. She was truly loved by her caregivers from Home Instead, private duty and Hospice. For the past four years she had a very special person that took care of her house, shopped and id about anything she asked of her and whom she loved very much Michaela Suits. All of her caregivers became friends and offered her the ability to still be active and make decisions which kept her going and gave her dignity.
Marlene's family will always remember her as a loving and devoted wife , mother , grandmother (Grammy) ,sister, aunt and friend to many. despite her many physical challenges and most recently her diagnosis with terminal cancer she never complained.
