DUANESBURG - Lorraine J. Velie Ohlhous, age 92, of 887 Barton Hill Road, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at The Grand Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Guilderland.
Born May 7, 1932, in the Town of Poughkeepsie, Lorraine was the only child of Allen E. Velie and Ruth H. Stevener Velie. For a time, the family lived on the Kenyon Estate, where her father worked. She was raised in the Poughkeepsie area until 1942, when the family moved to Union City, New Jersey. There, she graduated from Emerson High School in 1950.
On May 3, 1952, Lorraine married Charles W. Ohlhous at St. Michaels's Monastery in Union City, New Jersey. Their marriage spanned more than 62 years until Charles’s passing on December 7, 2014.
Lorraine made her home in Duanesburg for 56 years, where she raised her children. Throughout this time, she enjoyed many years of tending to her flower and vegetable gardens as well as caring for a variety of pets. Lorraine cherished the annual camping trips to the Great Sacandaga, where she delighted in watching her children and grandchildren enjoy the lake, having her golden retriever fetch tennis balls, and playing games like rummy 500 or pinochle. Known for her love of sweets and her impeccable style, she always enjoyed dressing up for special occasions and church with matching accessories. Lorraine and Charles enjoyed traveling in their motor home and many vacation cruises. Soft spoken yet strong, Lorraine would do anything for her family.
She is survived by her children, Audrey (Richard) Rossi, Janet Smith, Nancy Barnard, and Howard (Paula) Ohlhous; her eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Lorraine was a dedicated member of the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Duanesburg Historical Society, the Schoharie County Pistol League, and the Women's Bowling League.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2025, 10:00 AM to Noon at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main Street, Delanson. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 3662 Giffords Church Road Duanesburg, NY. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 3662 Giffords Church Road Duanesburg, NY 12056.
