Leona Florence Fessenden died Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville, N.Y., after a short illness. Prior to her illness she had resided at the Willing Helpers Home for Women in Johnstown, N.Y. after having lived many years in Scotia, N.Y.
Leona Fessenden was born November 9, 1922 in Niskayuna, N.Y. to Lee H. and Gertrude E. (Poulin) Simonds. She attended Schenectady schools, graduating from Vocational High School in 1940.
She worked as a store clerk until her marriage to Robert J. Fessenden on October 11, 1941. They celebrated nearly 44 years of marriage before his death in 1985.
In addition to being a devoted wife, Leona was a devoted mother to Gerald Robert Fessenden of Schenectady, N. Y. and Barbara Fessenden Smith of Barto, P.A.
Survivors include her son and daughter, a sister, Theresa Diemer, of Scotia, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
A calling period from 1 pm to 2 pm followed by a funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the White –Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main Street, Delanson, N.Y., 12053.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice to celebrate her ”helping spirit.”
