Janet W. (Easton) Eberhardt

Esperance - Janet W. (Easton) Eberhardt, 85, passed away in her sleep on Monday, April 4, 2022 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY. She was the oldest child born on the farm to her parents Glenn and Dora (Avery) Easton on November 3, 1936 in Esperance, NY. She was a graduate of Schoharie Central School, Class of 1954.

As a single Mother, she took on house cleaning jobs, did interior painting, and waited tables at local establishments to provide for her 3 kids. For many years, she was a waitress/manager at the Howe Caverns Restaurant in Howes Cave, NY. In 1996, Jan retired from Schoharie Central School as a cafeteria worker.

In her spare time Jan enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening, and baking. She was known for her potato salad and chocolate chip cookies. She loved to have a cup of coffee.

Active in her community, she was a member of the Esperance Sloansville United Methodist Church, Esperance Historical Society and the Duanesburg Senior Citizens.

Jan met her husband, Ron Eberhardt, after he drove off the road in front of her house during a snowstorm and she invited him in for pancakes. They were married on August 24, 1979. Together they were members of hiking and camping clubs and enjoyed road trips, traveling, and cruises. They were married for 40 years before his passing on May 22, 2020.

Jan is survived by her children: Debra (Sam) Gaida of Summit, NY, David (Dee) Grass of Esperance, NY, Deann (DAN) Black of Pattersonville, NY. Stepchildren: Tammy (Mike) Briner of San Jose, CA, Kim Hill of Cincinnatus, NY, Martin (Jose) Eberhardt of Chesapeake, VA. Her siblings: Barrilyn (Al) Jacomini of East Hartford, CT, Ivan (Sheron) Easton of Canajoharie, NY, and Gary (Joyce) Easton of Esperance, NY. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive her.

A calling hour for Jan will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 11:30am-12:30pm at White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St. Delanson, NY 12053. A funeral service will follow at 12:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Esperance Cemetery at a later date.
