James Edward Bradt

May 16, 1944 — December 23, 2024

James Edward Bradt (Dad, Papa, Jimbo, Beezer), of Esperance, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 80, on Monday December 23, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 16, 1944 and he was a life-long resident of Duanesburg, NY. He graduated from Duanesburg Central High School in 1962, and served in the US Army Reserve from 1966 to 1970. James proudly worked as a carpenter at Harvest Homes in Delanson for 44 years, before retiring in 2007. He spent a portion of his “retirement” years working with his daughter-in-law, Stacy, in her two businesses, Western Turnpike Deli & Bulk Foods and Duanesburg Redemption Bottle & Can Return. He loved spending time with his family, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, and having Sunday breakfasts with his best friend, Elton Cook. He was full of funny stories, and was always known as a “give the shirt off his back” kind of person; eager to offer time, or anything else he had to give, in order to help others. James was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Louise Sweet Bradt; and his siblings, Catherine Bliven and David Bradt.

James is survived by his sisters, Mae Morrison, Lois Uvegas, Lillian Carlson, and Charlotte Ferris; his children, Phillip Bradt (Jean), Gary Bradt (Stacy), and Tammy Bradt; his grandchildren, Tasha, Aimee, Joshua, Jacob, Samuel, Ryan, Evan, and Zachary; his great-granddaughter, Karlee; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of formal services, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends later in the spring, followed by the spreading of James’ ashes in his own favorite hunting woods. Arrangements by White Van Buren Funeral Home, Delanson. Condolences can be posted at whitevanburenfh.com.
