Helen (Hardendorf) Benson

Helen Benson, 96, of Esperance, died peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2014 at Ellis Hospital.
Born in Duanesburg on June 14, 1918, Helen was the daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Gower Hardendorf .
Helen was a homemaker and also worked for many years as a hairdresser at her home.
She enjoyed square dancing, bowling with the seniors in Cobleskill and helping her neighbors.
Her first husband, Percy Rockwell died of cancer in 1949. She then married husband Oscar P. Benson on April 6, 1950. Oscar died in 1999. She was also predeceased by 9 siblings.
Helen is survived by four children, Paul W. Benson (Joan Sossei)  and Douglas Benson, both of Esperance, Lawrence Rockwell (Kathie) of Warnerville and Amilda Heckman (Harold) of Elizabeth, Co.,  eight grandchildren, Lindsay Ruland, Courtney Benson, Sheila Rockwell, Denise Rockwell, Jacqualyn Davis, Sean Rockwell, Rebekah Lipka  and Nathan Heckman, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August  22, at 1 pm at the Esperance Cemetery, Burtonsville Rd. in Esperance.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Esperance Vol. Fire Department, PO Box 84, Esperance, NY 12066.
