Gilbert Gibby Wolfe

April 17, 1919 — April 20, 2014

Quaker Street- Gilbert “Gibby” Wolfe, 95 , passed away peacefully on April 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Gibby was born in  Frankfort NJ on April 17 ,1919 a son of the late John and Eva Wolfe. He served in the in the United States Navy During WWII.
Following the war Gibby worked for GE while operating his farm in Quaker Street. It was on this farm that he built his Diner known as Gibby’s. The diner was an Original Mountain View Stainless steel diner, shipped from New Jersey and opened in 1952. It is in operation today. The diner’s success came from Gibby’s clever and innovative cooking procedures that endure at the diner today. He was always looking for new and different items he could incorporate into the menu.

Gibby led a busy life with the diner. During his lifetime he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion, a Professional bowler, a stock car owner, a club champion golfer, a shriner, a mason, town Justice of the Peace, Horse racing enthusiast, and Red Wings hockey fan.
He is survived by Anna Burnett, his loving companion of 47 years, his children Denny and Christine Wolfe of Quaker Street, William and Barbara Wolfe of Phoenix Az, Doug and Pat Wolfe   of Malta  and Colleen and Glen Glindmeyer of Rotterdam Junction, and  Gail (Harry) King of Maine.
Gibby is survived by 13 grandchildren  and 14 great grandchildren  a brother Walter and Shirley Wolfe of Scotia and  a sister Ethel Hewitt of Glens Falls .
He was predeceased by his parents ,his wife Helen (Proper) Wolfe and his siblings , Charlie, Teddy, Bill, Richie, Jean Ostrum, Betty Tiffany , Margaret Roche, and Olga Cougar.
Family and friends are invited to call at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg  Ave Rotterdam on Thursday April 24 ,2014 from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 6 pm to 8pm . Funeral services will be held on Friday April 25 ,2014 at the funeral home(DeMarco Stone) at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery Quaker Street NY.
The family respectfully requests that donation may be made in Gibby’s Memory to the Association of the Blind or  Shriner’s Children Hospital  or the Lions Club of Duanesburg .
Local arrangements have been entrusted to the White VanBuren Funeral Home Delanson NY
