Doug was a proud veteran of the US Navy, and was most proud of his time in service as a diesel mechanic aboard the SSBN-598 George Washington, a nuclear submarine in the US Atlantic Fleet and also the lead ship in her class. He oftentimes would reminisce about his trips under the ocean only to surface in her home port of New London Ct and Holy Loch, Scotland. He then succeeded his father’s then established electrical contracting business “Turnpike Electric” in 1970 and eventually turned it into his own company “Kirk Enterprises” in the 1980s. Doug enjoyed investing into many multifamily properties and had as many as 7 properties at once. Doug also served in many organizations such as President of the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association, Republican Clubs, Danish Brotherhood Associations and Chairman of the Zoning Boards of Appeals. Doug was an avid mechanic in every sense of the term by executing many projects that included the elevation of many homes in flood prone areas along the Schoharie flood district and even moved an entire house without so much as breaking a window. Amongst his favorite activities were snowmobiling, dirt bikes and working on Alcohol funny cars.
Doug was a loving brother of a large family. He is predeceased by his sister Janet DeNovio and brother James (Linda) Yauchler his first wife Lorraine Hoffman and a daughter Liana Yauchler.

After the death of his first wife Doug married his second wife Kathleen Campbell and was the loving father to three more children and grandfather to 8.
His sons  Douglas II and his children Allie and Jordan,  Brandon and his children Miranda, Kiera, Sara, Megan, and Caden and his daughter Krystal and her daughter Lilyanne, all survive him.
Of all of his accomplishments, Doug was a very loving soul and was most proud to be a father and spend most of his remaining time with his grandchildren.
