DELANSON- Donald William Culbert, 90, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Guilderland. Donald was born in the Bronx to the late Archeford and Rosina Bencivenga Culbert. At the age of 11, he moved to Richmondville, NY where he graduated from the former Richmondville Central School. He married his high school sweetheart, Agnes Karas on May 18, 1957 and they were married 64 years until her passing in 2021. They had four children, Tom, Dan and Theresa (Walter) Arnold and Joe (Regina), nine grandchildren, David (Michelle), Meagan Ramundo (Joey), Jon (Jisun), Emily, Michael, Steven (Callia), Erica, Will Arnold (Meghan) and Jenny Arnold and four great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Carter, Vienna Ramundo, and Augustine Arnold. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Culbert, nephew Joe Karas, dear friend Dale Keefe, friend and neighbor Bob Ramey and many cousins in the Bencivenga clan. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother Raymond.

Donald served in the US Army from 1954 - 1956. He joined the New York State Police in 1957 retired in 1977 as a Sergeant and Station Commander of the Duanesburg barracks.

His love of family came first. He and Agnes traveled the USA in a truck pulling a camper. He loved camping with family. He loved fly fishing, hunting and the outdoors. His 20 years in the NY State Police defined him in many ways and his many "Trooper stories" are well known. In his early days he rode the State Police motorcycle when they were used for patrol. To his grandchildren he was a story-teller, fishing instructor, expert campfire-maker and marshmallow-roaster, Mr. Tough Guy and deep down, a teddy bear. Above all else, he was our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and his personal favorite title: husband. The love he had for Agnes was unmatched and unwavering.
