Charles “Charlie” W. Ohlhous died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the age of 86. Born in Union City, NJ on July 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles J. Ohlhous and Marcella “Lucy” Marchal. He was married on May 3, 1952 in St. Michaels’s Monastery in Union City, New Jersey to Lorraine Janet Velie.
Charlie was a family man with a strong will to live. He constantly sacrificed for his family, and was the greatest dad in the world. He was known as 1-800-Dear Old Dad. He could fix anything and warmed the hearts of everyone he met with his charm and stories. Boy, could he tell a story! He was fond of target shooting, photography, US history, and enjoyed traveling.
Charlie served in the United States Air force for three years and was stationed in England during the Korean War. His strong work ethic was unmatched and he retired in 1993 after over 38 years of working as an aircraft mechanic.
He was a devoted husband and father with a determined and lively spirit. When he set his mind to something, there wasn’t anyone or anything that was going to stop him. Charlie was predeceased by his siblings: Anna Ohlhous, Marcella Edminson, and Catherine Pucciarelli.
Survivors are his sister, Madeline Murray of Colonia, NJ; his loving wife of 62 ½ years, Lorraine Janet Ohlhous; four children, Audrey Rossi (Richard) of Delanson, Janet Smith of Binghamton, NY, Nancy Barnard (Richard) of Duanesburg, and Howard Ohlhous (Paula) of Duanesburg; 8 cherished grandchildren, Daniel Rossi, Susan Garza, Edward, Christopher, and Matthew Barnard; Andrew, Alexander and Austin Ohlhous; and one great granddaughter, Sara Garza. He was very proud of all of his grandchildren in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main Street, Delanson, NY on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, December 11th, at 10 a.m. at Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church located at 3662 Giffords Church Road. Pastor John Fisher will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlie Ohlhous’s life. Private interment will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
