Celia R. (Laporte) Lane

Celia Rose (LaPorte) Lane, age 96, passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 16, 2013 at her granddaughter’s home in Cobleskill, N.Y.  Born December 19,1916 in Tupper Lake, N.Y., Celia was the daughter of Victoria and Antoine LaPorte.  Celia was married to James W. Lane in 1937.  In 1941 they moved to Schenectady, and to Duanesburg in 1948 where she resided until recently.
Celia (Peggy) enjoyed her family and friends, her music, playing the piano and especially helping with the grand and great grand children.  She always looked for ways to help others in her family and community.   Celia worked in the restaurant business in Schenectady and then operated the Duanesburg Diner and Goody’s Diner. She was employed by New York State for 18 years, retiring in 1980.
Mrs. Lane was predeceased by her husband, James W. Lane, in 1982 and by her daughter, Mary Jane Jones of Berne, NY in March of 2011.  She is survived by her son James A. (Liz) Lane of Glenmont, her daughter Judith (Douglas) Hammond of Guilderland, her son-in-law Ralph Jones and her brother Norman (Ardis) LaPorte of Schenectady. She is the grandmother of Shelley Szabo Weed, Tammy (Tom) Rehberg, Amy (Michael) Lane Grant and Douglas Hammond and great grandmother to Jared Weed, Seneca and Jace Rehberg and Emily and Allison Grant.  She was predeceased by her sisters Alma Durocher, Eva Moore, Margaret LaLiberty, and her brothers Joseph, Adleor, Leon, Edmond, Albert and Edward LaPorte.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 10 – 11AM with a funeral service following at the White VanBuren Funeral Home on Main Street in the village of Delanson, NY 12053.  Interment will be private.
